Spiritus Law Goes Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

10.1.2022

MIAMI, FLORIDA – OCTOBER 1, 2022 Spiritus Law, an entrepreneurial regulatory and business law firm focused on the representation of highly regulated industries and transactions, launches its Go-Pink campaign for breast cancer awareness month. The firm goes pink to promote mammography screenings and facilitate informed conversations in its community. This year, the campaign aims to support Spiritus Law’s very own Senior Licensing Team Paralegal, Evadne Maxwell, whose daughter Sharonda Maxwell was recently diagnosed in March 2021.

“Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world,” said Robert Lewis, Founding Attorney and Team Manager of the Alcohol Industry Group. “Spiritus Law is committed to raising awareness in our community by spreading informed news, urging mammograms, sharing helpful resources, and more.”

Spiritus Law’s Go-Pink activities during October have one goal in mind: to raise awareness and donations while promoting mammography screenings through a variety of educational social media posts. In addition to raising money for the Maxxstrong Breast Cancer Fundraiser, an online fundraiser that directly benefits the family of Evadne Maxwell, the firm’s staff will also be participating in the 2022 KOMEN MIAMI/FT. LAUDERDALE MORE THAN PINK WALK on Saturday, October 8th.

“October is breast cancer awareness month. Each year we come together as a firm to share the importance of testing along with valuable information to start important conversations throughout our community,” said Marbet Lewis, Founding Attorney and Team Manager of the Alcohol Industry Group. “Sharing facts may seem simple, but it can save a life. According to statistics, 1 in 8 women will receive a breast cancer diagnosis in her lifetime.”

According to National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. here are some facts about breast cancer in the United States:

  • In 2022, an estimated 287,500 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S. as well as 51,400 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.
  • 65% of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at a localized stage (there is no sign that cancer has spread outside of the breast), for which the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%.
  • This year, an estimated 43,550 women will die from breast cancer in the U.S.
  • Although rare, men get breast cancer too. In 2022, an estimated 2,710 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S. and approximately 530 men will die from breast cancer.
  • 1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime
  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, except for skin cancers. It is estimated that in 2022, approximately 30% of all new women cancer diagnoses will be breast cancer.
  • There are over 3.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
  • On average, every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States.

“Remind your loved ones to get regular mammograms to detect issues early,” said Dominic “Nico” A. Romano, Attorney Team Leader of the Real Estate Group. “According to the American Cancer Society, women aged 45 to 54 should get breast screenings yearly. Those at higher risk should get screened yearly before the age of 45.”
